Have you ever wanted to try taiko? This beginner-friendly workshop offers a chance to experience the excitement of Japanese ensemble drumming. Meet new people, make some noise, and discover the joy of creating music together. By the end of the workshop, you'll be playing a taiko song. No experience necessary!

Beginning Taiko is an introduction to kumidaiko, the Japanese art of ensemble drumming. Learn fundamental techniques and rhythms while discovering the joy of making music together. Taiko is more than drumming. It's listening, supporting one another, and sharing your energy with the group.
No prior experience necessary.

Cost: FREE, but must be enrolled in at least one class.
This is most appropriate for students who have been studying with ONE for multiple sessions and know some common repertoire.
"The Cobweb Runs" What's that? It's a practice we do at ONE to test our memory and performance readiness of songs that we haven't played in a while by playing them cold with no review. Sometimes, we also use it as an opportunity to develop bench strength where we practice playing parts we are not used to playing in a low stakes environment.
This is a casual opportunity for students to play alongside performing members & apprentices and to review some songs learned in past sessions. Student may be guided toward getting familiar with the ji part as well.

Agari Yatai, Kashmir, Mokuyoubi, Ryujin Daiko, Miyake, Matsuri, Hiryu, Omiyage

Skills & Drills is where we slow things down and focus on the details and practice, practice, practice. Through targeted and focused repetition, students will work on improving their technique, kata (form) and getting a good sound out of the taiko.
Less song learning and more sharpening taiko drumming skills.

Basic Katsugi Okedo is a chance to explore the shoulder-slung taiko. Through simple rhythms, movement exercises, and plenty of hands-on playing, we'll practice fundamental striking techniques and discover what makes this style of taiko so dynamic and fun. Come ready to learn, experiment, and have fun together.
