Odaiko
New England offers dynamic lecture demonstration programs to grades
k-12. A lecture-demonstration typically lasts 45-50 minutes and
includes the following:
Introduction to taiko, and to the kumi daiko (ensemble drumming) style. Emphasis on the importance of taiko in the culture of Japan, and its more recent history in the United States.
Performance of taiko songs based on traditional taiko rhythms, giving students a flavor for different taiko styles. We also perform contemporary songs which demonstrate the fusion of taiko with other musical traditions and performance disciplines.
Audience and interactive participation, which is usually enthusiastic, allowing participants to drum.
